Best This Calls for Perspective

When my great grandfather was my age (actually, a little younger) his house and everything his family owned all burned down in a fire. Me, I got Not Accepted by the board of the apartment I had been planning on moving into tomorrow. It could be worse! At least I have things to finish packing up to put into storage. Living out of my suitcase for a month or two will be exciting! Right?

What does that mean? Getting "not accepted" by them? Do they not like you anymore? Do you pay too little rent in their opinion and they want a new tenant that will pay more? Does some fancy celebrity want your apartment so they can break down a wall and make a bigger apartment to call their own? This is so crazy.

What the story is: A couple of months ago they told me they'd be raising my rent by $200 here in my nice apartment that I love and I took a deep breath and said "I'm out." I'm not made of money! I got a friend who owns an apartment in need of a tenant, a nice space and a real nice price, so I set out to make that apartment mine. It took a lot of time and there were lots of hoops to jump through, but I battled like a gladiator and last night had my interview with her co-op board...even though friend owns the apartment and wants me to live in it, she doesn't get final say on if I move in or not. The co-op board does. And they said No today. And I was supposed to move in tomorrow. So...yeah. Packing up and going nomadic. New York City, you're so full of things like this.

They don't even know how much fancy you would have brought to their building.
