Best Visitor Ever, pt.I

Here's something to brag about: My Dad is in town and he brought Grandma Barnes along from Utah. Tonight we had a very sophisticated evening, starting with dinner at Telepan.

We got there a little early so Grandma was stuck outside reading the menu for a while.

Let me further familiarize you with our evening's cast of characters.

Grandma and Me

Dad.

Okay, that's everyone. This is what we ate:

Amuse: On the left, a pastry full of melted cheese. In the middle, a spoonful of salmon tartar and beet puree. On the right, squash and pinenut soup.

Appetizers:
Jumbo Shrimp Poppers green chile aioli & rucola (both Dad and Grandma)

Hen of the Wood Mushroom Frittata buffalo mozzarella & toasted garlic (Me)

Mid Course:
Lobster Bolognese shallot-garlic-tomato broth & light herbs (Grandma)

Sweet Maine Shrimp sea urchin, potato & leek stew (Me)

Seared Foie Gras & Foie Gras Stuffed Apple duck prosciutto, cider glaze & walnuts (Dad, who couldn't resist as foie gras is illegal where he lives. Basically he's like a College student going to Amsterdam for the pot)

Entrees:
King Salmon meyer lemon, crushed potatoes, spinach & rosemary (Grandma)

Seared Sea Scallops blood orange, candy beets & roasted sunchokes (Me)

Slow-Roasted Monkfish lobster hash, braised fennel & red wine lobster sauce (Dad)

Dessert:
Brandy Bread Pudding brandied cherry ice cream, brandy sauce (Grandma)

Crunchy Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Gianduja peanut brittle ice cream & huckleberry gelee (Me)

Dad got a chocolate cake dish that isn't on the online menu for me to copy down.

One more Telepan thing. I want you to know about the forks:

Also, must I tell you that dinner was excellent?

After dinner we walked down to the Met to see "I Puritani" by Bellini. This opera was the reason my Dad wanted to come to New York in the first place because the role of Elvira was being sung by Anna Netrebko, one of the biggest names in Opera right now.

Things I saw around the Opera.

Must I tell you that the opera was excellent?

After the show I taught Grandma how to look for an approaching Subway. You can frame this picture if you want, I don't mind.

You look so handsome in that picture where you're looking for the train with your grandma.

I think you chose the bestest options for your meal vs. your dad and grandma.

I was at that opera as well. It was indeed incredible. And, although she is unavailable (I believe), I have decided that I'd like to marry Anna Netrebko.

That's the absolute worst kind of anonymous comment

You are one fancy man...that food looks amazing. And you are looking quite handsome in that last photo with your grandma. Quite the roguish, young gentleman....
