It's only natural that we would recognize some correspondences, since many of the native cultures preserve elements of the Lamanites, Nephites, Jaredites, et. al.
I was disappointed to hear that he'd canceled plans to make a film about the Maccabees, but then I heard about this over the summer. I'm excited to say the least.
Oh my gosh, he even puts the 3 days of darkness in it (you can tell by the eclipse). Shouldn't someone tell him we've already made this movie. Although his special effects look better.
