Best It Turns Out It's Not Just Me

Since yesterday I've been smelling syrup, and I thought it was just me . . . like, I figured I stepped in a waffle on my way to workschool (Why'd I write work? I don't have a job. Why do I think I have a job? I know it isn't true) or something, but then I discovered this collection of news at Gothamist.

Weird. weird.

I guess this disproves Demetri Martin's observation: "Whenever I investigate a smell, I find that the answer is always bad. It's never: "What is that? *sniff* muffins!"" Or at least his observation is disproved until it turns out that anthrax has a sweet, sugary smell.

Good to know that I'm not going crazy. I smelled maple syrup down on Spring Street and thought it was just Rice to Riches...but then when I got off the subway at 23rd and still smelled it, I thought I must be imagining things. Of course, I didn't complain too loudly because it sure beat the cigarette-smoke smell that usually saturates the city. Maybe once the source is discovered, non-smokers of the world can unite and pass legislation requiring it?

even more legitimate, NY Times published an online article about it. They say its nothing...what the crap do they know about my nose? What if I was syrup allergic?

This is very funny, because Nathan wouldn't believe me yesterday when I told him I hadn't secretly been making and eating waffles in our apartment without him, because... you guessed it... it totally smelled like syrup. Crazy.

PS Brig, this is my first time posting on your site.

Oh thank GOODNESS. No-one around me last night seemed to notice it. I was afraid I was having another psychotic break. I smelled it all the way from Washington Square to Roosevelt Island!

Now we'll all grow old but not forget the night New York smelled of syrup.

I say Syrup-Day is the Blackout of 2005.

And welcome to the internet, SJ.

um, I read about this herbal tea that can make your nether regions smell like maple syrup and here's the thing maybe everyone in NYC bought that tea.
