Best Convincing Me to Want to Buy a Luxury Car

This NY Times review of the Maserati Quattroporte is awfully well written. Yet the author doesn't address the fact that the Quattroporte is sort of a little ugly.

Can you explain to me the use of the word Quattro? I am just noticing that Audi uses it, and now Masarati is using it as well? Does this have something to do with the engine, or are they both banking on this being a really really cool word or something?

This Much I Know:

"Quattroporte" means "four doors", as in this is a four-door Maserati.

I don't know what Audi is getting at. Has it to do with all-wheel drive?
