Best The Birthday Party I Waited All Year For
Ever since Andy's birthday party last year (just now I'm discovering that it doesn't seem I blogged Andy's party last year. What a travesty. It was real fun.) I've been anxiously awaiting his next birthday party and when it finally came I nearly missed it because of poor bus strategy getting back up here from DC. But travel miracles occurred and I made it to the party with time to spare!
This is the scene that I burst in on:

Almost all of these pictures are from Collin's camera, he really did a magnificently beautiful job of capturing the party and the revelers. (You can tell the ones Collin took because they have no flash and look good...also, they are the ones with mysterious names as opposed to numbers when you click on them.)
It's possible that you don't know Anna and Christian. Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce Anna and Christian.
And here's the part we were all waiting for, the presenting of this year's ice cream cake.
There was a small problem. The cake had melted. That's the risk you take with frosted ice cream. It's not like it wasn't still delicious. In fact, a melted ice cream cake is even better than a normal ice cream cake because it is both delicious AND hilarious.
And here we are one last time, all the partiers. Happy Birthday, Andy! What a night we all had!
Even though his birthday was nearly two weeks ago, it's still acceptable to wish Brother Lam well in the comments section. If you have any decency.

Best Long Live the Living Dead
Lux Interior, dead at 60.
I'm glad I saw the Cramps once and was nearly ready to see them again.
It was a long recovery process.
My conflicted review of that experience.
But listen. The Cramps are a cooler band than almost any band you can name, and I will debate you to death on this. There's probably only maybe 5 bands cooler than the Cramps, and that's just an arbitrary guess. It might only be 3.
PS I've been getting mad google image hits from people looking for pictures of Lux, but the photo they're getting off my blog isn't even of Lux. Try searching to see what I mean...but beware, these are Lux Interior image searches we're talking about.

Best How's the House? Warm Enough for Ya?
In order to put an end to the harassing demands for this post that I've been receiving, I break from my timeline momentarily to honor Saturday night's House Warming party at Ali, Melissa, Leslie, and Kellie's.
This party was excellent. There was a big turnout with people from all over the island and visiting from other lands, too. There were probably more people there that night than came to the FHE the girls hosted earlier that week, and if you were at that FHE, then you know that was a lot of people.
Here's a picture of me, Leslie took it. I spent the night in the corner picking songs and talking to whoever might come over. Of the party but not in the party, that's how I like it.
I took a few pictures from where I stood before setting my camera free in the crowd to return to me later that night full of (mostly) Ali, Ryan, Ryan, Kim, Melissa, Davis, and Collin. With some Jamar, Bryndee, Holly, and Cassie here and there. Also, the occasional Jeff, Grace, or Heidi.
The food. I ate a LOT of that dip in the green bowl.
Caroline said "Check it out, I can pick up Randy."
It was true.
After the party, during the cleaning up and hanging out, Leslie was reviewing my photos and saw that there weren't any pictures of her at the party, so she and Ali created this reenactment.

Best If That's What You're Into
Saturday. It was freezing. Mormons from Manhattan, Los Angeles, Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens convened in Queens for an adventure. The adventure entailed walking through Flushing Meadows Park, visiting the Unisphere, going to the Queens Museum of Art, and then having salmon at Helen's house. It was freezing.
Lots of feral kitties at the park.

There aren't any pictures of the Queens Art Museum because pictures aren't allowed there. But the most important thing about the Queens Art Museum is that it is the home to lots of stuff related to the New York World's Fair, particularly the very fun and interesting "Panorama of the City of New York" which totally makes the freezing trip out to Flushing Meadows worth it.
Also of note: behold, the demolishing of Shea Stadium.
Collin and Adam joined us for the supper portion of the evening. I had to split early to find a way back to the city (there was no 7 Train service to Manhattan last weekend...that made stuff tricky) and back to the UWS (no uptown trains were stopping at 96th street that weekend...neat) to grab my computer for the big party in Little Italy that night. Don't worry, it only took me a little over 2 hours.

Best Barnes Family Tradition, Alternate Version
Of course, if I were to set my briefcase down and ask you who's birthday it is today, the answer would be "James Joyce."
(Even if my mom had to tell me that today)
And that picture up there? I just started living on the Upper East Side for a month last night, today I found that place right around the corner from me. Bit of a coincidence, sort of.

Best In Case You've Been Doing the Right Thing
Friday Night Lights Season 3 has been playing on NBC for two weeks now (that means three episodes) and, in case you've been watching it now, here's links to what I thought of these episodes when they were only available on Direct TV or, errr, by...other means.

Best What I Took Away from the Superbowl
The most interesting thing for me about the Superbowl was the GI Joe movie commercial. I almost liked it. I liked all the running around and exploding. I liked the Eiffel Tower disintegrating. Why? Because that totally seems like something that would have happened on the old cartoon, and that's where these movies come from: cartoons. But what I DON'T like is this was the first time I realized this movie was being directed by What's-His-Face Summers, the guy that made the Mummy movies, the absolute worst action movies I've ever seen. I've almost never seen my dad as angry as he was after we saw the Mummy Returns as a family--he couldn't believe someone would make such a terrible movie and that he gave two hours of his precious Saturday to it. It was hard to convince him that the Mummy Returns was actually better than the Mummy.
And the Transformers 2 commercial. Yeah. Looks like more of the same, I couldn't tell what was happening at all and one of the robots has a giant wheel.
