Best Yesterday Possible?

Right now, as I'm trying to get over the physical effects of being out all night watching Star Wars AND trying to get myself together to see it again in a few hours AND then muster up the energy to catch M.I.A. and LCD Soundsytem tonight, it's hard to think of yesterday as the Best Yesterday Possible, but it sure seemed like it when it was happening.

Jumping right to the good stuff, Mom and I had lunch at Las Fuentes, the family's preferred Mexican dining destination. And why do we prefer it? Because it's so great and you can order stuff that isn't even on the menu, that's why.

Mom had them whip her up some shrimp tacos. (totally not on the menu)

And I had them make me some steak burritos suizos (also totally not on the menu, which is weird). AND they gave us free nachos, which they didn't have to do, because Mom and I would have definitely had ordered the nachos anyway. The nachos at Las Fuentes are pretty much the world's greatest.

And on the way home we stopped by 7-11 so that I could try . . . THE BIG GULP ROOTBEER FLOAT!!

First you go get your ice cream cup from the freezer . . .

Then you push the ice cream down into the Big Gulp Cup . . .

Then you fill it up with IBC Rootbeer from the fountain (!!!) . . .

And then you're enjoying your Big Gulp Rootbeer Float and maybe eating a Take 5 bar, too, if you're the luckiest.

I spent the rest of the day rolling around the house in a total Mexican food coma until it was Star Wars time. In the only awful turn of events of the day, my dad got called into the hospital to save some woman's life or something and couldn't go to the show. Yeah, when I said "awful" I meant "Awful."

So the rest of the family headed off to Melrose Park for the big show. Greg and I grabbed the family the last decent seats in the theater, showing up two hours early barely cuts it these days.

The theater was full of kids that Owen and Greg knew from school. Most of them asked if I was their dad. High school kids are so dumb.

While waiting for the movie to start I went out to the car to get an Advil and then I saw the White Castle across the street from the theater and all of a sudden I really, really wanted some White Castle. The desire to eat White Castle is the most bizarre thing that can happen to a person. I don't know why it happens, it just does, and when you're eating White Castle, it's about the most delicious thing in the world . . . and once you're done, it's like you don't have to do it again for months and months until the next overwhelming desire for sliders hits.

Back in the theater, the nerds put on some excellent light saber battles.

The perfect way for me to end this post would be with a picture of the opening credits of the film, but a cop was sittting right behind me, and what if he actually cared about copyright law? So you'll just have to believe me when I say that we watched Star Wars and it was the greatest but SO grim that I don't know if I can really handle watching it again this afternoon . . . but yeah, I want to.

I saw it twice today. I loved how dark it was, and I was astonished by how excellent Hayden Christensen is at portraying an insane villain.
