These are some things I have clicked on recently:
A new Spike Jonze directed commercial for the Gap where customers and employees alike trash a Gap store. Apparently this is because the Gap is redesigning all of its stores. I don't know if this commercial is on TV yet, but it sounds like it airs with different music playing than what is played here, which is too bad, as this is good music Spike has picked out. (everything I just said is just stuff I found out from the very page I'm liking you to, so I'm redundant.)
It's nice if blogs have themes. Like, maybe a good theme for a blog would be patterns? Patterns from Brazil.
At the beginning of Monday night's fine new episode of Arrested Development they showed Buster getting his hook stuck in the dash of the stair car as he did the robot to Mr. Roboto. If you didn't already know, that was a joke about how Tony Hale (being the actor that plays Buster) "starred" in that commercial where the guy is dancing to Mr. Roboto in a VW Golf.
And last but not least, the teaser trailer for X-Men 3 is online. First impression: Storm likes to spin a lot. Cyclops has lots of fillings. A good way to figure out who is dead is to figure out who isn't at the funeral. Look at Jean Grey walking with Magneto's group of bad guys. Juggernaut, hmmm, I don't know what I think. Beast, hmmm, I'm not sure what I think. I was frustrated with X-Men 2 because I felt it didn't advance the "story" of the X-Men at all and thought the main villain (Col. Stryker) was lame. It doesn't seem this one is up to much interesting either . . . what I want is a new and awesome villain. Unless some of those laser blasts are coming from unseen Sentinels, I'm probably going to be let down by this movie. That said, it's a pretty well put together little teaser. If I don't think about it too much, I like it. Too bad I think so much.

You are right about blogs with themes - I have visited many knitting sites recently on accident. I swear, on accident.
I can't view trailers at work, but can you tell me if Bishop and/or Gambet have made it into the X men yet? I keep waiting and waiting to see some descent flaming card throwing.
No Bishop, No Gambit. For a while there was talk that Gambit would be in the movie, but recently he was officially "Not in the Movie."
BUT I just found out that Omega Red is going to be in the movie and that makes me say: "Huh? Really?" I wonder what sort of role he'll have . . . in the comic he was a very potent villain, but I imagine he's been marginalized in X3.
AND here's something I should have said in my official post: There at the end of the trailer, when Wolverine is flying through the air? If that's a fastball special, then I just may be very, very happy with this movie as the only thing that gave me a rush in X2 was when Colossus turned to steel.
Wow. I was just about to ask if you caught the reference to the car-commercial. I guess you didn't catch the "Being There" reference though, or thought it was beneath your notice. Which is fair enough.
I was also going to ask what you thought about the new X3 trailer. I preferred 2 to 1, but that's because I liked the character development; for me, the exciting bits of the comics were always the ones about the relationships and the characters' backstories, not the cataclysmic battles. That said, I'd like to see Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister in the films. My roommmate is excited to see Beast because Beast is his favourite X-man, and he thinks Kelsey Grammer is perfect. The only thing we know for sure is that this one is going to revolve in some way around the Phoenix entity.
I've never seen "Being There" but I was like "Oh, she can walk on water because she doesn't know that she can't." So now I've got to see Being There, I guess.
I'm thinking X-Men 3 is going to be an enormous pile of mutant cameos. If you check the X3 imdb listing, there are just so many characters that are supposed to be in this thing.
I often enjoyed the issues of X-Men where there was (almost) no action, just people hanging out at the mansion, having their characters developed. In fact, the very first issue of Uncanny X-Men that I ever bought, #210, was a relatively action-less prelude to the Mutant Massacre in the Morlock tunnels. My just about favorite issue of Uncanny X-Men, #183, is just about X-feelings with a little Juggernaut fight thrown in for good measure.
But my problem with X-Men 2 was that it seemed to be just like X-Men 1, but with the stakes turned up a little higher . . . instead of using Rogue to turn everyone into a mutant, they're using Prof. X to kill every non-mutant. I'd rather be worried about someone really awesome trying to kill the X-Men . . . I'm not so worried about a maniac army guy if the maniac army guy doesn't have powers. Doesn't anyone remember the Reavers? Let's fight the Reavers!
Best all-action issue of Uncanny X-Men? Maybe #245, where Colossus, Wolverine, Havok, and Longshot singlehandedly repel an alien invasion of Australia. Sort of intentionally funny ha-ha, but still great.
Heh. Yeah. Reavers were awesome. Or the Brood. I liked the Brood.
Put that way, I can see your point. I guess to me, X2 was a better, more satisfying version of X1 so I was grateful for it.
Well, two words get me stoked for this movie (well technically three but what with compund words and such.) Fastball Special. Colossus chucking the canuck is worth my ten bucks.
Juggernaut not imposing enough. I noticed that Storm does a lot of spinning as well. But I thought that I was the only one.
Beast? Jury's out. I like Kelsey Grammer as Beast. But, the make up is iffy. But it beats a CG Beast any day of the week.
I'm sorry to say it but Magneto is the only formidable villain that the X-Men have because he causes the X-men themselves to question what they stand for. That and he has all the best backstory and motivation. Apocalypse can be argued but I always thought he was shallow. Magneto is the best because you find yourself rooting for him cause you can sympathize with him. And that makes a great Villain. True villains don't know they are evil.
But thats enough of me geeking out.
Maybe the founder of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants knows he's evil.
But it's true, the X-Men have always been a little light on the villains . . . especially when their backstories get as convoluted as they have. I think Mr. Sinister and the Marauders are great, but I'd rather not have to know Mr. Sinister is an anti-evolutionist from the 19th century, or whatever. And let's not start with Stryfe (or anyone else Rob Liefeld created).
The Brood? A little too Aliens.
Speaking of villains, I like what they've done with the Black Mask in Batman.
Truth to tell, I stopped reading the X-titles in the mid-90's. I just didn't care anymore.
The Brood seem more like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" which is a trope I never get tired of when it's done well.
I think Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister would make for some great cinematic sequences, but that's about it. I can't really think of any other formidable villains.
I'm obviously not an eXpert on these matters; if they were about to release a "The Sandman" film however...well, then I could weigh in with *authority.*
Black Mask indeed has been a fun villain. Also, The Red Hood is pretty sweet. That's another villain who doesn't think that he is bad. He just has a more brutal way of meting out justice.
By the way they retconned the "brotherhood of EVIL mutants" now it is just "the brotherhood of mutants."
X-men is interesting for the first time in a long time. Since they got rid of like the entire mutant population except for like 250 of them.
I just thought that Mr. Sinister's character design was a little goofy. And his name was a little on the nose.
but, about the movies. I think that they dropped the ball on having iceman not being made of ice. I think that it would have been sweet if they did the whole abyss-T1000 thing but with ice. Just my opinion.
Full metal Colossus, for your consideration:

Looks like Destro with hair, if you ask me.

I stopped reading X-Men regularly during the X-Tinction Agenda . . . but this new Astonishing X-Men is something else, what they were trying to pull off at the launch of New X-Men, I believe.
Also, I was never that into Sandman, I thought it was more for goths or guys who wore black trenchcoats . . . oh, wait . . .
Thick blood clouds my sight,
Whispering of the abyss.
My heart sings no more...
