In California, if you see something scurry by your feet as you're walking down the street and you look to see what it is, it turns out it's a bird. In New York, if you see something scurry by your feet as you're walking down the street and you look to see what it is, it turns out it's a rat. Or mouse. But mostly a rat.
That depends on the part of California you're visiting. I've seen many a rat and spider in my time here.
